Clean the beltfish by removing the fins, internal organs, and dark inner membrane. Rinse gently but briefly to retain flavor and nutrients.
2
Slice the radish into thin pieces about 1/4 inch thick.
3
Cut the onion into chunks.
4
Arrange the radish slices on the bottom of a pot or clay pot, then place the beltfish on top.
5
Make the sauce by combining minced garlic, ginger, soy sauce, red chili powder, and black pepper in a bowl.
6
Place the onion and beltfish over the radish, then pour the sauce mixture over everything.
7
Add 2 cups of water around the edge of the pot.
8
Bring to a boil over medium-high heat for about 15 minutes, then reduce to medium heat for another 15 minutes. Finally, reduce to low heat for 5 more minutes until the radish becomes translucent and tender and the broth is well-infused with flavor.
9
Add sliced green onions and green chili peppers in the last few minutes of cooking.
10
Transfer the braised beltfish and radish to a serving bowl and enjoy with steamed white rice.
