Prepare ingredients in advance. Soak starch noodles in cold water for about one hour until softened. Choose fresh tteok and avoid frozen or powdered varieties. Soak tteok in water to prevent sticking. Prepare hard-boiled eggs, fried dumplings, green onions, and other accompaniments.
2
Make the sauce by combining minced garlic, Korean red chili flakes, gochujang, sweet soybean paste, sugar, and water. Mix well until smooth and deep red in color.
3
Slice or shred the onion, carrot, fish cake, and sausage. Prepare portions for 4 people.
4
Add 5 cups of water and the ramen soup powder packet to a small pot or tabletop burner.
5
Pour the prepared sauce into the pot. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally.
6
Add the drained tteok, soaked starch noodles, fish cake, sausage, onion, and carrot to the simmering broth.
7
Continue cooking over medium heat for about 10 minutes until the tteok softens and the noodles are tender.
8
Add the cheese slices and stir gently. Diners can begin enjoying boiled eggs and tteok while cooking continues.
9
Garnish with green onion. Serve by allowing each diner to use a small bowl to collect broth and pick ingredients directly from the pot.
