1
Wrap the tofu in a cotton cloth or paper towel to dry out excess moisture.
2
Cut the tofu block into about 8 pieces.
3
Heat the pan on medium-high, add the vegetable oil, then add the tofu pieces. Fry for about 5 minutes until the bottom is slightly crispy, then flip and cook another 4-5 minutes until both sides are golden and crunchy. No need to add salt since the sauce will be salty.
4
While the tofu is frying, combine the soy sauce, gochugaru, minced garlic, and chopped onion in a bowl.
5
Turn the heat down to medium to avoid burning the tofu, continuing to flip it occasionally.
6
Add water, sugar, a generous amount of sesame oil, and chopped green onion to the sauce mixture, then stir well to combine.
7
Continue frying the tofu for about 5 more minutes until both sides are crispy.
8
Turn off the heat, transfer the crispy tofu to a plate, and generously spoon the seasoning sauce over the top.
9
Garnish with more green onion and sesame seeds, then serve—pairs well with rice, soup, or kimchi.
