Prepare the stock: Boil 4 cups of water with 6 headless and gutted dried anchovies and kelp about the size of your hand. Remove 2 cups of the finished stock.

Heat 2 teaspoons of sesame oil in a pot and stir-fry 4 minced garlic cloves and half a medium onion until the onion becomes slightly translucent.

Pour in the 2 cups of anchovy-kelp stock and bring to a boil. Cover the pot.

Gently crush the 14-ounce soft tofu and add it to the pot along with 1 cup of clam meat and green onion pieces. Simmer for about 5 minutes.

Toast 2 tablespoons of sesame seeds and grind finely into a powder.

Turn off the heat and season with 1 tablespoon of fish sauce and ground black pepper to taste. Ladle into bowls and top with the sesame seed powder.
