   Combine butter, sugar, salt, and vanilla extract in a bowl. Beat together until light, fluffy, and pale in color.

   Add room-temperature eggs one at a time, beating for about 30 seconds after each addition until the mixture is smooth and homogeneous.

   Gently fold in the flour until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this will keep the cake light and fluffy.

   Pour the batter into a greased 28 cm fruit cake pan and smooth the top. Bake at 170°C (top and bottom heat) for 20–25 minutes until golden and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
