Japanese seven spice (shichimi togarashi)optional, for spice2 tsp
Steps
1
In a large baking pan, combine corn Chex, wheat Chex, Bugles, honeycomb cereal, pretzels, and Japanese roasted green pea snack mix together.
2
In a medium saucepan, melt unsalted butter over medium heat. Once melted, stir in brown rice syrup, sugar, neutral oil, and soy sauce. Continue stirring until the sugar is completely dissolved.
3
Evenly pour the warm syrup mixture over the cereal and snack mix, then toss together with two utensils until all pieces are evenly coated.
4
Sprinkle the furikake seasoning over the mix and toss to distribute evenly.
5
If you prefer a spicier version, add Japanese seven spice to the mix and toss together.
6
Spread the mixture in the baking pan and bake at 250°F for 1 hour. Every 15 minutes, remove the pan from the oven and mix the contents to ensure even toasting and prevent burning.
7
Once baking is complete, remove from the oven and allow to cool completely. While cooling, toss the mixture every 15 minutes at least three times to help loosen the pieces and ensure they don't stick together.
8
Once completely cool, transfer the furikake Chex mix to airtight containers or bags if storing for later, or serve immediately.
