German rum balls come in two versions: smaller truffle-like balls found in candy sections nationwide, and larger snowball-sized balls sold at North German bakeries. Both are made with chocolate, butter, and rum, enjoyed year-round as a delightful treat.

rumor rum extract~3 tbspest.

Combine milk chocolate and dark chocolate, place in a bowl over a pot of gently simmering water (not touching the water), and allow to melt without boiling.

While chocolate melts, beat softened butter until very creamy, using about 100g (just under one stick).

Sift confectioners sugar to remove lumps, then mix it into the creamy butter.

Once the melted chocolate has cooled slightly, add it to the butter and sugar mixture and mix until combined.

Add rum and mix thoroughly.

Refrigerate the mixture for at least one to two hours until firm.

For smaller rum balls: Roll hazelnut-sized pieces of the mixture into spheres, coat by rolling in chocolate sprinkles, and place in paper wrappers. Work quickly as they melt easily in warm hands.

For larger rum balls: Crumble one or two-day-old cake into a bowl, add rum and orange juice, and mix until combined.

Melt dark chocolate over a water bath and stir it into the cake mixture until well combined.

Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to one hour, or preferably overnight.

Shape the chilled mixture into snowball-sized spheres, pressing firmly together to hold the shape.

Roll each large sphere in chocolate sprinkles until fully coated.
