   Wash five fresh lemons thoroughly and dry them completely.

   Carefully peel the lemon skin using a peeler or knife, taking only the yellow outer layer and avoiding the white pith underneath.

   Place all the peeled lemon skins into a glass jar.

   Pour 1 and 1/4 cups of high-proof alcohol or vodka into the jar to cover the lemon peels.

   Seal the jar tightly and store it in a cold, dark place such as a basement for 30 days to infuse.
