Ingredients

Flour~2 cupsest.
Milk~1 cupest.
Lemon juice~3 tbspest.
Lemon zest~1 tbspest.
Fresh strawberriesUsed for the strawberry reduction and garnish~1½ lbest.
Buttercream base (butter, sugar, etc.)Combined with strawberry reduction to make strawberry buttercream~3 cupsest.

Alternately fold the flour with the milk and lemon juice into the batter, mixing just until combined to avoid overworking it.

Divide the batter evenly among three cake pans and smooth the tops.

Bake the cakes, and while they bake, prepare the strawberry buttercream by reducing fresh strawberries into a concentrated syrup and mixing it into the buttercream base.

Once cooled, pipe a buttercream border around the edge of each cake layer, fill the center with more strawberry reduction, and stack the layers to build the cake.

Cover the entire cake with strawberry buttercream and smooth it out as a base coat.

Decorate the cake as desired, such as creating a simple yet elegant rope pattern.
