In a small bowl, combine light brown sugar, all-purpose flour, and ground cinnamon for the cinnamon filling. Mix well and set aside.

In a medium bowl, combine flour, light brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Break up brown sugar lumps with a fork and distribute ingredients evenly. Add cold butter pieces and work them in with your fingertips until the mixture resembles wet sand. Set aside.

Preheat oven to 350°F. In another medium bowl, combine all-purpose flour, salt, and baking powder. Fluff flour before measuring and gently whisk the dry ingredients together.

In a stand mixer, add softened butter and mix for about 1 minute until smooth. Gradually add granulated sugar and light brown sugar, then cream together for about 3 minutes until light and fluffy, scraping down the bowl as needed.

Add eggs one at a time, mixing well and scraping down the bowl between additions. Allow each egg to incorporate fully before adding the next.

Mix in room temperature sour cream and vanilla extract until smooth.

On low speed, add the dry ingredients and mix until almost combined with some streaks of flour still visible. Finish mixing by hand with a spatula until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

Line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper. Pour half of the cake batter into the pan and spread evenly with a small offset spatula.

Sprinkle the cinnamon filling evenly over the batter layer and gently shake to distribute.

Dollop the remaining cake batter over the cinnamon layer and gently spread into an even layer with a spatula, being careful not to press too hard in the center.

Bake in a 350°F oven for about 55 minutes, or until a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean. Baking time may vary depending on your oven.
