Prepare the pie crust. You may use a store-bought frozen shell or make your own. If making from scratch, roll the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 12 inches to fit a 9-inch pie tin. Avoid cracking; gently pinch together any cracks that form.

Transfer the dough to a 9-inch metal pie tin, which will yield a crispier crust than ceramic. Push the dough from the edge inward without stretching. Trim the excess with scissors, leaving about 1 inch of overhang. Fold the edge underneath and crimp decoratively with your thumb and fingers.

Place the prepared crust in the freezer for at least 45 minutes, preferably 1 to 2 hours, to ensure it holds its shape during baking.

Preheat your oven to 425°F. Chop 1.5 to 2 cups of pecans into pieces. For enhanced flavor, toast them in a 350°F oven for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

In a large bowl, whisk together 1 cup corn syrup, 3/4 cup granulated sugar, 4 tbsp melted butter, 3 large eggs, 2 tsp vanilla extract, and 3/4 tsp salt. Optionally add spices like cinnamon, allspice, or nutmeg, up to 1.5 tsp total.
