Prepare the cheese and ingredients. Optionally coat the cheese lightly in flour, though this step is not essential.

Beat the egg in a bowl. Dip the cheese into the egg, turning to coat completely.

Roll the egg-coated cheese in breadcrumbs, turning to coat evenly on all sides.

Heat oil generously in a pan. Once hot, add the breaded cheese and fry both sides until golden brown and crispy. Add more oil if needed to crisp the sides.

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Transfer the fried cheese to a small baking pan and bake until the center is completely melted. Test with a fork in the center to confirm. The baking time is short.

Let the cheese cool slightly until it is just cool enough to handle with a fork. Break off pieces, dip in cranberry jam, and enjoy while still warm.
