Heat olive oil in a pan and add the smashed garlic clove. Let it sizzle gently for a few minutes to release its flavor without browning.

Add the halved cherry tomatoes and a generous pinch of salt. The salt will draw out moisture and help the tomatoes cook beautifully.

Stir in fresh basil and let the tomatoes cook for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. They will start to burst, break down, and transform into a thick, jammy sauce.

When the tomato sauce has about 5 minutes of cooking time remaining, cook the pasta in salted boiling water.

When the sauce has about 5 minutes left, use the back of a wooden spoon to gently crush the tomatoes, helping to break down the pulp and create a luscious sauce. Remove the garlic clove.

Cook the pasta until just shy of al dente so it can continue cooking with the sauce. Transfer the pasta directly from the boiling water into the tomato sauce along with a cup of the pasta water.

Stir in a generous handful of Parmesan cheese. The cheese acts as an edible glue, binding everything together and creating a creamy, delicious finish.

Plate and serve. The sauce should be thickened and cling beautifully to the pasta for a truly sensational dish.
