Steps

Measure 150g of uncooked white rice and rinse under water until the water runs clear, then drain thoroughly.

Cut 80g of onion into half-moon slices.

Prepare 140g of thinly sliced beef; if whole pieces are used, slice them thinly.

In a bowl, combine the beef with 1/3 tsp grated garlic, 1/3 tsp grated ginger, 2 tsp white wine, 2 tsp mirin, 1 tsp sugar, and 2 tsp soy sauce. Mix well until the beef is evenly coated with the marinade.

Prepare the rice cooker sauce by mixing together 190ml water, 1 tbsp + 1 tsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp white wine, 1 tbsp mirin, 2 tsp sugar, a pinch of consommé powder, and a pinch of dashi powder. Stir well.

Pour the drained rice into the rice cooker pot.

Add 190ml of water and the prepared sauce to the rice, stirring to combine evenly.

Add the sliced onions to the rice, then arrange the seasoned beef evenly on top.

Place the inner pot in the rice cooker and cook using the regular white rice setting.

Once cooked, transfer the gyudon to a serving bowl and optionally top with red pickled ginger before serving.
